[ Naples, Italy] 1777 First Neapolitan Edition Quarter Leather Good- Small 4to Tomus I, xvi + 338 pages, including index. Tomus II, xxii + 281 pages. Leather spines with gilt titles and tooling; marbled boards. Title page vignettes; headpiece and decorated initial at the beginning of each book. There is some dampstaining in each volume, and light foxing; the boards are abraded at the corners. Antoine Dadin, (1602 - 1682) was a distinguished French historian and canonist, dean of the faculty of law at the University of Toulouse. The church awarded him a pension as a reward for his defense of ecclesiastical jurisdiction. His confutation of Charles Fevret's "De Abusu" in which he defended the Church, wasn't published until the 1770s.
