Set no. 17 of only 40 copies on laid paper, with proof Etchings on Whatman paper, for the American market: Note: 150 sets were done for the UK. "Adolphe Lalauze is one of the most original etchers in the modern French school - P. G. Hamerton." The title calls for 19 etchings, but most references cite 18 etchings: this has 19. Inscribed on endpaper by Lucius Barbour Crumbaugh to Kate R. Brockenbough at Christmas in 1885, on flyleaf (they later married and lived in Chicago). Several volumes rehinged, head of vol. 3 rebuilt & chipped label 005679
