This is the first major work devoted exclusively to growing citrus fruit, especially in the northerly latitudes. The first part is historical with an eventual focus on Italian gardens. Part two explores citri-culture. Parts three and four depict and describe the characteristics of the oranges, lemons and hybrid varieties in cultivation. Most of these remarkable plates -present here in their original un-colored state - were done by Cornelius Bloemaert. Other excellent allegorical and architectural plates were made by artists such as Nicolas Poussin, Andrea Sacchi, Guido Reni etc.; frontispiece by P. Greuter after Pietro de Corona. This copy has the dos-a-dos plate, but lacks to plate at p. 38-39. { Hunt Botanical Catalogue, 243; Pritzel 2878; Nissen, 621; Sommervogel vol. 3, col. 678; Brunet, v.2, p.1231}.
