Potzdam / Potsdam 1760 Second Edition, Revised Full Leather Very Good 16mo Engraved Portrait
Friedrich was called "The Great" for many reasons. He was not only an outstanding warrior and military leader, but also an absolute ruler but he ruled as an Enlightened Despot. These are some of his poems (Odes, Epitres), published in French, expressing his ideas, and ending with the extensive poem, "L'Art de la Guerre"; also an Ode to Voltaire; with a selection of his letters. Friedrich was buried on his estate, Sansouci. His engraved portrait appears in the center of the title-page. This edition has changes from the prior Berlin edition: it is one of a number of editions printed in 1760. [Not in Brunet II, 1386]. 16mo; vi, 298 pages, contemporary panelled calf, extra gilt . Ex libris Robert McKerrell. Presentation inscription (undated but post 1788) to (1764-1824), diplomatist. Top cover detached, inked initials on title-page. 006424
