19 Verne, Jules THE CLIPPER OF THE CLOUDS. Author's Copyright Edition.
London Sampson Low, Marston & Co. Ltd 1920 Early Hardcover Very Good Very Good 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
No date [1920]. Original orange-brown paper-covered boards decorated in blue, pink and brown. This volume is in Sampson Low's "Books for Boys" series. There is a list of 26 these titles on the verso of the half-title page, advertised as "illustrated, 2 /6 net". On the rear panel of the dust jacket, there is a list of another 26 titles, not all the same as the first list, priced at three shillings. Front flap of dust jacket has a list of Vernes titles "Jules Verne's Popular Books for Boys, Full Crown 8vo handomely bound and illustrated. Cloth 5/-Net." The rear flap has a similar listing for many of the same titles -- these are advertised as having coloured and black and white illustrations. These are priced at 4/-net. There are two black and white illustrations: a frontispiece and one right near the end. The binding shows a mosque-like structure, and the color pictorial jacket shows scenes from various Verne titles (including the "clipper of the clouds"). This copy is in Very Good (the cheap paper is darkened at the edges, browned on endpapers, and there is a bit of paper residue on the front pastedown); the jacket is near fine, with similar paper residue on the front flap but with little wear. The front endpaper bears a Christmas 1920 gift inscription, probably indicating this edition's year of publication. 007330
