Louis Theveny 1898 Fine Octavo 
Set of four linen-backed maps, covering the four quadrants of France. This very early collection of four dissected linen backed automobile maps covering the whole of France, were produced by Louis Theuveny and the De Dion-Bouton bicycle and automobile manufacturer at end of the 19th century. (Dion Bouton was a founder of the first French automobile club in 1895. Each map is topographical, and measures 24 x 28 inches. Later editions of these maps feature a decorative cartouche and illustrations of automobiles. De Dion-Bouton was the largest carmaker in the world at the time, and their roadmaps served as a very popular accessory to the privileged few who owned automobiles. Complete with original boards-and-cloth slipcase with its paper label depicting a bicyclist (before it was changed to an automobilist). Chromolithographed by Erhard Freres, Paris.
