RASSELAS has often been compared with Voltaire's CANDIDE; the two works were published only a few weeks apart - Reader's Encyclopedia." This is the variant with the text, "indiscerpible" , at p. 161, line 2, of vol. 2; corrected state of v.2 reading, "Contents / of the / second volume"; p. 106 mis-signed "D4", not "H4". Only 1500 copies of this edition were printed. It was hurried into publication due to the illness of Johnson's beloved mother. Raised bands, inner dentelles, a.e.g., lacks preliminaries. 003661
