Daniel was a friend of literature, Charles Lamb, and Robert Bloomfield, as well as a satirical poet, and book collector. His essay on Charles Lamb runs from pp. 1-31, followed by Samuel Johnson, pp. 32-62 (an essay in reply to Macaulay's piece on Dr. Johnson), followed by a piece on "Old Father Christmas". Presentation Copy, inscribed on the flyleaf, "To Mr. & Mrs. Timlins / From their Friend / The Author / 1863". Daniel was a major fan of drama (he owned the four folios of Shakespeare, and a notable collection of black-letter ballads. Tipped in is the publisher's advertisement for THE BEE AND THE WASP.
