Includes the author's account of the Chicago Fire and its aftermath. Diehl was also "detailed to take up the work of the correspondent who died with Custer." He went on to cover the campaigns of Terry, Crook and others, as well as the Spanish-American War. Illustrated with black and white photo reproductions, including frontis. of author.
