Nansen's plan was to reach the North Pole by becoming locked in the polar ice cap and "floating" north. He and Lt. Johansen spent 15 months in a sleigh journey to reach the pole from the "Fram". Vol. 2 ends with 100 pages of Appendix by Otto Sverdrup, Captain of the Fram, on the drifting of the ship from March, 1895 - May, 1896.
