436; 449 (38)pp. Published 1836, 1837. Cloth bound with paper spine labels. Illustrated with two portraits; there is also a folding facsimile of a letter tipped in to volume 1. Davis was a close associate of Burr, and also the executor of Burr's estate. Howes D126. The cloth covers of both volumes have been sunned on the spines, and are mottled, with evidence of water damage on the rear boards, but the text is free from any staining and remarkably free of foxing. The head of the spine of volume 1 has a half-inch tear; there are the book plates of two former owners on the front paste-down endpapers. 003226
