About Chicago Rare Book Center

Chicago Rare Book Center

The Chicago Rare Book Center came into existence in 1998 as a book mall co-owned by five booksellers at 56 W. Maple in Chicago's Gold Coast area. In March 2005, the partners moved the bookstore to Evanston in the Main Street shopping area. In its present state, Chicago Rare Book Center focuses on the books of the remaining three partners and no longer operates as a mall. Their concentrations include Children's Books, Modern Literature, Jazz and Blues, Art, Chicago and the Midwest, Americana, Bindings and Sets, but the store includes rare and unusual books in all subjects.

The Partners

The partners are children's specialist Ann Dumler, jazz and blues author Paul Garon, and Pat Martinak, who operated Alkahest Book Shop in Evanston for over 20 years.
